As a competent Senior Software Engineer, the jobholder’s responsibilities will tend to be broader, as compared to a Software Engineer, in both complexity and diversity. The jobholder will also tend to be responsible for all aspects of the development cycle of mainly more complex software designs (e.g. identification of requirements, generation and testing of solutions and commissioning/ sign-off). In this role you will carry out modelling of software related problems using predominately UML. You will liaise with internal and external staff (e.g. Customer Service Engineers, Engineers from within Software Engineering and other Engineering disciplines and directly with customers) for the purpose of clarifying the exact nature of identified faults and parameters for project success. You will undertake deliverables within a large project or a complete smaller project, to agreed targets (time, cost, quality) and act as software expert when liaising directly with customers during consultation process for new or existing business. You will be using predominately C or C programming languages, in relation to the project in question to develop new code; enhance existing code or de-bug existing code. You will carry out unit testing of developed code, rectifying errors/ faults as and when identified and where appropriate liaise with Systems Test to undertake integration and full testing activities.

Furthermore, you will provide coaching and guidance, in your own areas of expertise, to more junior members of the Software Engineering team. You will adhere to and comply with all relevant departmental and company standards/ procedures and complete associated documentation for example software development checklists/procedures. You will release notes (to be forwarded to Team Leaders and Product Managers) and as and when required, lead specific software projects undertaking scheduling activities as appropriate. You will attend design and code review meetings, as required by the project team leader/s, to confirm progress made, difficulties encountered and to receive information from other project team members. Furthermore, you will deputise for the Software Team Leader as and when appropriate.

Qualified to degree or equivalent level preferably in an engineering/ computing or science related discipline you will need significant experience working successfully in a software engineering role. You will be able to act as a lead contributor within your own department and competent in all the major aspects of software engineering. You will have experience of successfully developing large PC based applications or real-time system software and be able to act as a source of technical expertise in one or all of the following programming languages: C and C and UML.

Successful candidates will also need the ability to share your own expertise, provide guidance, support and motivate other team members and to be influential within your own team. The ability to apply knowledge and skills to a variety of complex/ critical problems is required for this role, as is the ability to identify and solve, from first principles, unusual/ complex technical problems. You will be able to build stable and useful working relationships and able to explain difficult concepts to a variety of audiences and ensure that the meaning is understood. You will be an effective communicator both face to face and in writing with people at various levels in an organisation. You will be able to act pro-actively to understand ‘client/ customer’ needs and offer assistance prior to being requested and be able to achieve goals/ objectives as an individual and also in a team environment. You will understand, with clarity, key internal/ external business issues and best practice in own discipline area. You will be able to make changes to your own and colleagues work as a response to these.

You will have experience of successfully managing and completing small to medium projects, which may involve the co-operation of others; good cross discipline communication skills, contributing to effective decision making, identifying and taking ownership of problems. You will be able to manage your own time and workload to deliver against agreed targets, set both on short-term and medium term timescales.

This is a first class career opportunity for Senior Software Engineers to join a well-established, successful company. Among their products, they provide award-winning screen printing equipment and technologies.
