SENIOR SAFETY CASE SPECIALISTS
INTELLIGENT NUCLEAR CLEAN-UP
WARRINGTON OR GLOUCESTER

We are seeking Senior Safety Case Specialists to provide Hazard Management and Safety Case Production skills across the waste management, decommissioning and clean up, new build and CBRNE (Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear, Explosive) markets to be based in their offices in Warrington and Gloucester, with opportunities for visits and secondments other UK nuclear licensed sites and overseas.

As Senior Safety Case Specialist you will be required to develop Hazard Management strategies, which are demonstrably ALARP and cost effective, which result in engineering solutions within budget, to deliver complex safety cases for waste management, decommissioning and new build projects, to maintain and develop customer relationships, through reputation, knowledge and experience to encourage follow-on and new work within the skill area, to promote further business and to provide mentoring and training to staff.

You will be responsible for ensuring that conventional health & safety and environmental protection requirements are assessed and embodied in the design, that the Licensee’s Safety Principles are embodied in the safety case and the design and will also chair and participate in hazard identification exercises and HAZOP studies and undertake Hazard Analysis and Risk Assessments Quantitively and Qualitatively.

You will produce consequence assessments, carry out fault and event tree analysis, specify the requirements for specialist analysis and interprete the results e.g. Shielding, Dose Uptake Assessment, Criticality, Human Factors and Ergonomics and will be responsible for internal and external Hazards Assessment. You will also develop delivery strategies and produce detailed and fully resourced programmes and cost estimates for bids as well as resourcing, technically leading and project managing safety case delivery teams to deliver acceptable solutions within programme and budget.

You should be qualified to degree level in a relevant Engineering or Science discipline and should ideally have achieved Chartered Status. As Senior Safety Case Specialist, you should have significant experience in the nuclear industry working in a nuclear safety environment critical, with knowledge of nuclear waste management facilities/processes and/or reactor plants and/or complex nuclear new build facilities and a proven track record of responding to independent and regulatory assessments.

You should have a background developing, producing and delivering safety cases (PSR, PCSR, PICR, PACR, POSR, SCSOR, PMP, Decommissioning Safety Cases), also including hazard analysis (DBAA, PSA, fault trees, event trees) and developing ALARP arguments.

You should have excellent communication and liaison skills and a post graduate qualification in safety and environmental risk management would be desirable. Ideally you will have experience of working in a contracting organisation or consultancy and experience of operating plant on a nuclear licensed site, although this is not essential.
